The VMAs are the most hotly anticipated event on the music calendar and after last year?s twerking foam finger from Miley Cyrus this year had a lot to live up to.
Sure enough the 2014 event didn?t disappoint and Beyoncé led the evening with a whopping eight nominations. B took home the ultimate Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award after being described by her hubby Jay-Z as the ?greatest living entertainer?. The celeb couple also won best collaboration for their hit song Drunk In Love as well as Best Video With a Social Message for Pretty Hurts.
The former Destiny?s Child star didn?t pick up Video of the Year though which went to Miley Cyrus for Wrecking Ball. While Ed Sheeran won Best Male for Sing and Katy Perry took home Best Female for her chart-topper Dark Horse.
When it came to best Pop Video Ariana Grande and Iggy Azalea took home the moonman and beat Pharrell?s smash hit Happy. Perhaps next year this gong will be going to Taylor Swift after the country singer showed that she is officially pop with her first ever performance of Shake it Off.
