According to Gizmodo, the reboot is about a smart toy who finds autonomy and kills a bunch of people. When the original film came out serial killers were getting a lot more attention, such as Ted Bundy and the Manson Family. In addition to serial killers, there was a ?Satanic Panic? where the Church of Satan opened and people fear for their children.
