Jay-Z and Beyonce received GLAAD?s Vanguard Award during their 30th annual media awards ceremony. While receiving the award Beyonce dedicated the award to her uncle, who died of HIV. According to SFGate, the singer said seeing her uncle battle HIV was a painful experience. Jay-Z took a similar approach and dedicated the award to his mother, who came out in 2017 as lesbian. The award is given to ?allies who have madea significant difference in promoting acceptance of LGBTQ people.
