According to Business Insider, "The Beach Bum" director Harmony Korine said that a song choice by lead actor Matthew McConaughey turned one scene into the heart of the movie. In "The Beach Bum," McConaughey plays Moondog, a burnout poet who spends his days living comfortably in the Florida Keys thanks to his rich wife, Minnie, played by Isla Fisher. In one scene, the two are dancing around Miami listening to the Peggy Lee song "Is That All There Is?" Korine said it was McConaughey who came up with the song choice and that it completely changed the dynamic of the scene.
