Comicbook.com reports 'The Walking Dead' showrunner Angela Kang has explained more about the Highwaymen!

The morally ambiguous horse-riding cowboys, a.k.a. ?apocalypse cosplayers,? came from an idea by writers David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick and Eddie Guzelian.

In an earlier episode we saw a group of wagons going by, and you saw this kind of sign that was painted on the back of a street sign. It?s sort of like the apocalypse version of tagging.

The red symbol appeared again on a blackmail letter, revealing the group to be ?pirates? who are willing to help transport people, for a price.

'The Walking Dead' airs Sundays at 8 PM CST on AMC.
