The series 'You' flew under the radar last fall when it aired on Lifetime, only to become an overnight sensation on Netflix this month. Uproxx reports the streaming company announced Friday that the series will soon hit 40 million viewers. Penn Badgley, who plays the stalker on which the show centers, is pushing back at his fame. Badgley told E! that the show is a ?litmus test? to demonstrate how people will perform ?mental gymnastics? feats ?on a cultural level, to love an evil white man.? The actor explained, "I understood the appeal, but I was really ambivalent. I was really troubled, and that was also what [executive producers Greg Berlanti and Sera Gamble] said was appropriate about me playing him. I remain ambivalent. I?m really questioning why people like Joe so much." A second season of the series will go straight to Netflix.
