According to MNN.com, "There's a special group of orcas living in Washington's Puget Sound. The Southern Resident killer whales are a genetically distinct population, and they are considered critically endangered with only an estimated 74 individuals left." Research also shows that 2/3 of pregnancies fail in the whale population, so there are very few whale births to save their depleting numbers. Apparently, most whale pregnancies fail, because of food scarcity.
