Ellen DeGeneres is facing backlash on Twitter, after allying for Kevin Hart to be reinstated as the host of the 2019 Academy Awards.
Comedian Hart was set to host the 2019 Oscars, before stepping down amid past
anti-gay tweets that surfaced.
Openly gay Ellen DeGeneres tweeted on Thursday, "I believe in forgiveness. I believe in second chances. And I believe in @KevinHart4real."
Uproxx reports that the talk show host called the Academy and asked that they reinstate Hart as host.
Ellen explained, "I have no idea if he wants to come back and host, but what are your thoughts?? And they were like, ?Oh my, God! We want him to host."
Ellen said that the Academy believes that Hart may have been misunderstood, "or it was handled wrong."
Ellen urged Hart to "ignore the haters," saying that ?a huge group of people who love you and want to see you host the Oscars.?
