According to SF Gate, composing a soundtrack for a film is a daunting task, but it?s especially difficult when you?re faced with having to tie it back to an all-time classic.
Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman took on a formidable task when Disney decided to bring back Mary Poppins and hired Shaiman and Wittman to compose the sound track for the Rob Marshall film ?Mary Poppins Returns.?
The Sherman brothers wrote a string of classics for the 1964 film (including ?A Spoonful of Sugar, ?Supercalifragilisticexpealidocious,? ?Step in Time? and the Oscar-winning ?Chim Chim Cher-ee?), and Shaiman and Wittman had to step into their shoes for the new adventure.
Mary Poppins Returns opens in theaters on December 19th.
