Gay advocacy group GLAAD said it never intended for Kevin Hart to step down as host of the upcoming Oscars.
Hart quit the gig after homophobic social media postings resurfaced this week.
Instead of quitting the job, GLAAD said the comic should have used the moment to raise awareness.
In a statement to The Wrap, GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis explained that Hart should have used the adversity as a teachable moment.
