VIDEO : Fox Taps 'Overlord' Director Julius Avery For 'Flash Gordon'

According to The Wrap, Julius Avery will write and direct the "Flash Gordon" remake.
Fox has tapped the ?Overlord? director to bring the iconic sci-fi character back to the big screen.
The space opera comic strip was created and originally drawn by Alex Raymond.
It follows an adventurer out to save the planet Mongo from Ming the Merciless.
First published in 1934, it was inspired by and competed with the "Buck Rogers" strip.
"Flash Gordon" has been translated into various media, including features, TV, and animation.
The latest version appeared on the Syfy network in the United States in 2007.
?Kingsman? director Matthew Vaughn will produce alongside John Davis.
