On the October 15th Roman Reigns wrestled in the main event for WWE RAW. A week later, the Universal Champion revealed he had been battling leukemia and relinquished his title. Many fans wonder when Reigns find out, and when he told Vince McMahon that he would be forced to leave WWE. According to ComicBook.com, McMahon learned of Reigns' diagnosis on October 18th. McMahon shared the heartbreaking news with his WWE staff the next day and they immediately discussed the company-wide adjustment that would need to happen in Reigns' absence. There is no set time for Reigns to be away from the ring, but sources estimate it will be a full year.
The number of people who knew about Reigns' situation was kept to a strict minimum, so when he addressed the crowd and cameras, most people backstage were hearing the news for the first time. Sasha Banks just confirmed this during an interview on Conversations With Maria Menounos.
