According to Rolling Stone, Dickey Betts is in critical condition after suffering a fall at his home.
Betts was an original founding member of the 70's classic rock band the Allman Brothers Band.
The guitarist was at home playing with his dog when he fell and struck his head.
The website for his band confirmed the guitarist is set to undergo brain surgery on Friday.
Betts who wrote and sang the Allman Bros. classic ?Ramblin? Man? suffered a stroke in August.
