?At Eternity?s Gate?, the new Van Gogh biopic premiering at Venice Film Festival this year begins with the impoverished Van Gogh in Paris in the 1880s. The film follows him to the south of France, in and out of mental asylums, and ends with his death a couple of years later, at age 37. The movie is directed by Julian Schnabel and stars the Oscar-nominated Willem Dafoe as the tormented artist with his ginger beard, straw hat and sad, wounded expression.
