According to a report by SFGate, Madonna defended her meandering tribute to Aretha Franklin at Monday's MTV Video Awards, explaining the next day that her speech was not meant to be a tribute to the late star. The 60 year-old singer wrote in an Instagram post, "I was asked to present video of the year by MTV! And then they asked me to share any anecdotes I had in my career connected to Aretha Franklin! I shared a part of my journey and thanked Aretha for inspiring me along the way.?
