Refinery 29 suggests that they're gaining popularity thanks to one superstar.

One of Ri-Ri's most notable tattoos is placed on her chest, on her sternum, and often peeks out of her red carpet ensembles.
It's a picture of Isis, an Egyptian Goddess.
On the " Rihanna effect" Refinery 29 explains, "If anyone could convince us that we should pay another person to ink our personal real estate, it's her.
