In season seven of Game of Thrones Ed Sheeran appeared as a cameo in the series. Sheeran played a Lannister soldier in a scene with Maisie Williams who plays Arya. Co-showrunner David Benioff said they thought it would be fun to add him as a cameo. He said that Sheeran was a big fan of the show and that Williams was obsessed with him. Yet not everyone was happy about the cameo, such as Kristian Nairn, who plays Hodor. Nairn said he thinks cameos are stupid and that it takes people out of the created world.
