According to the Hollywood Reporter, the Grammies are expanding.
The Recording Academy president, Neil Portnow, told Billboard magazine that the number of nominations for the top four categories for Record, Song and Album of the Year, as well as best New Artist will expand from five to eight.
The change is expected to take effect immediately, starting with the 61st Annual Grammy Award in 2019
In speaking of the changes, Neil Portnow said:
"This creates more opportunities for a wider-range of recognition in these important categories and gives more flexibility to our voters when having to make the often challenging decisions about representing excellence and the best in music for the year. We look forward to celebrating all of our nominees when they are announced later this year."
Since their founding in 1959, the Grammies have sought to honor the best of what the recording industry has to offer.
