'Black Panther' star Danai Gurira has been invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The Academy is best known as the group that organizes and votes on the Academy Awards. The Academy sent out more invitations this year than ever before. The invitations were an attempt to answer concerns over a lack of diversity. After this year's class, 31% of the Academy will be made up of women. 16% of the Academy will be people of color.
