According to a report by Reuters, hymns sung to the Greek gods thousands of years ago resonated from ancient musical instruments in Athens on Thursday, at the National Archaelogical Museum as part of World Music Day celebrations. Lyravlos, who reconstructed the ancient string and wind instruments, played some of the only ancient Greek scores that have survived the trials of time. The instruments were reportedly made from all natural materials including bones, hides, shells, and horns. The performance reportedly included a hymn to the god Apollo, as well as pieces played at the ancient Pythian Games in Delphi as well as during wine-laden rituals to the god Dionysus.
