According to That Hashtag Show, the upcoming Joker origin movie is eying Oscar winner Robert De Niro for a supporting role. De Niro has collaborated quite a bit with the movie's co-producer Martin Scorsese in the past, working with him on the films Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, Casino and Raging Bull. According to comicbook.com, the Joker standalone movie is set to emulate some of those films, so it does feel like a bit of a wink and a nod to have De Niro on the cast.
