According to a report by Comicbook.com, a secret cameo appearance in the final scenes of Solo: A Star Wars story, was so secretive that film star Alden Ehrenreich said that he only found out about it in the months leading up the film's release. Darth Maul, who last appeared in The Phantom Menace, was revealed to be the head of the crime syndicate Crimson Dawn in the latest Star Wars film. Ehrenreich said, "I found out pretty late. Everyone was kind of talking about it and speculating." Director Ron Howard explained in an interview with Empire, "It wasn't entirely my decision but I thought that was a pretty scary way to go and a way to give our third act a nice twist and a jolt of recognition and excitement."
