According to a report by Lifehacker.com, this year marks the 50th anniversary of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, and a new documentary titled 'Won't You Be My Neighbor' highlights the care that children's television icon Fred Rogers put into everything he did. Lifehacker points out that Rogers' unique way of communicating with children stemmed from the basic premise that kids are complex beings worthy of respect. From there, he avoided statements regarding good versus bad as a way of helping children develop critical thinking skills. He also reportedly tried to emphasize the 'why' of doing things, and how things work, as a way of giving children a richer inner voice.
