Friday, June 1st, Dunkin? Donuts is giving away free doughnuts for National Donut Day. According to Business Insider, ?National Donut Day is celebrated on the first Friday of June every year. The first National Day was held in 1938, as a tribute to The Salvation Army?s ?Doughnut Lassies,? who helped support troops during World War I.? Two volunteers named Ensign Margaret Sheldon and Adjutant Helen Purviance fried donuts in soldiers? helmets, because of the limited rations on site.
