VIDEO : Women Missing From The Billboard Music Awards

Celebrity in this news:

If you're planning to watch The Billboard Music Awards on Sunday, get ready.
Refinery 29 reports that women will dominate when it comes to performances.
Janet Jackson, Christina Aguilera, Demi Lovato, Ariana Grande, Kesha, Salt-N-Pepa with En Vogue and Jennifer Lopez are among the performers.
But there's a catch.
According to the Annenberg Inclusion Initiative study, women only make up about 20% of the Billboard Music Awards nominees in 2018.
Refinery 29 said, "(They) seem to have course-corrected for their heavily male awards nominees by booking as many women as possible to perform on the show.
How is this possible?
Billboard Awards nominees are chosen based on the most popular music which is determined by annual data collected like online streams, sales, radio play and social media buzz.
Refinery 29 adds, "Women were only in 16.8% of 600 most popular songs released in 2017."
Does that mean that the public prefers music made by men, instead of women?
Refinery 29 has a good answer to that question.
They explain, "The problem isn't actually the Billboard Awards or the charts: the problem is that this suggests record labels are spending their money to sign and promote significantly more male artists than female artists."
