The White House physician was nominated by President Donald Trump late last month to replace ousted former Secretary of Veterans Affairs David Shulkin.
He removed his name from the running on Thursday after lawmakers found that he drunkenly crashed a car and maintained poor prescription records while serving in the federal government.
Jackson served as the presidential physician under George W. Bush and Barack Obama?s administrations.
