Carrie Fisher died December 2016, leaving questions on what will happen to her Star Wars character. Mark Hamill who plays her sibling, Luke Skywalker, had something to say about the issue. Hamill said: "I think it would be tough recasting Carrie because she is so indelibly linked to that character." Yet like everyone else, he does not know the specific plans for her character. Lucasfilm has confirmed they will not digitally recreate the actress.
