According to a report by ScreenRant, the upcoming, Todd-Phillips-directed, Martin Scorsese-produced, Joker origin movie is going to be a prequel to the Dark Knight. The non-DC Extended Universe film will reportedly chart the origins of the Joker in 1980s Gotham, with a style similar to crime films of producer Martin Scorsese. Joaquin Phoenix has reportedly been rumored to be the frontrunner for the role, made famous by Heath Ledger's Oscar-winning portrayal of the iconic character.
