New reports reveal that the upcoming "Joker" origin film, to be directed by Todd Phillips, may have a familiar plotline.
The film will portray the Joker as a failed comedian, who turns to crime after bombing time and time again.
This has similarities to the popular story of "The Killing Joke"
That Joker story depicted him as a struggling comedian who snaps after a particularly bad day.
Phillips has also enlisted the help of director Martin Scorsese, who is attached as producer on the project.
Many will remember a similar plotline in his own 1982 film, "The King of Comedy."
That dark comedy starred Robert De Niro as a down on his luck comedian who kidnaps his idol.
Joaquin Phoenix is in talks to star in the movie, which does not yet have a script or production date.
