But director James Gunn explained that Baby Groot from the second movie is actually the son of the original Groot.

Naturally, the internet went insane.

It all started with a debate of whether people would choose Star Wars' Porgs over Groot in a life-threatening situation.

It was implied that Groot could just regenerate, but when Gunn said "First Groot is dead. Baby Groot is his son," fans were shocked.
