Anne Hathaway is in negotiations to star in ?The Last Thing He Wanted,? an adaptation of Joan Didion?s 1996 political thriller that will be directed by ?Mudbound? filmmaker Dee Rees. Marco Villalobos wrote the screenplay, which is a thrilling story of a journalist named Elena McMahon who abandons coverage of the 1984 presidential campaign in the midst of the Reagan administration?s arms-for-drugs Iran Contra scheme to fulfill her bed-ridden father?s last wish. Elevated?s Cassian Elwes, who collaborated with Rees on ?Mudbound,? will produce and The Fyzz Facility?s Wayne Marc Godfrey and Robert Jones will produce and finance.
