On Wednesday, Hollywood film producer and executive Jill Messick died in what her family has announced was a suicide. Her family released a powerful statement offering a different perspective on the #MeToo movement and criticizing Rose McGowan and Harvey Weinstein. The statement read, "As we collectively seek to take action in an effort to right the wrongs so brazenly and inhumanely repeated for a generation, we must not forget one simple truth: words have power." Messick was Rose McGowan's manager in 1997, the time when McGowan alleges that Weinstein raped her at the Sundance Film Festival. The family wrote, "What makes Rose?s inaccurate accusations and insinuations against Jill ironic was that she was the first person who stood up on Rose?s behalf, and alerted her bosses to the horrific experience which Rose suffered."
