For his war film Dunkirk, Christopher Nolan finally receives his first Oscar nomination for Best Director. The influential director is best known for The Dark Knight trilogy.
Dunkirk retells the story of Operation Dynamo during WWII. The large-scale evacuation shifted nearly 400,000 Allied forces in June 1940 from Dunkirk, France. Nolan?s film tells the story of that exodus from the three perspectives and timelines: land, air, and sea.
Nolan has never won a major industry award.
