Iconic rock star Tom Petty died of an accidental overdose, with multiple drugs found in his system, according to the medical examiner's report released Friday. The lead singer of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers suffered cardiac arrest in his home on Oct. 3, and was taken via ambulance to a UCLA Medical Center, where he could not be revived and was pronounced dead. He was 66. An autopsy concluded that the cardiac arrest was caused due to mixed drug toxicity. He had a mixture of fentanyl, oxycodone, temazepam, alprozolam, citalopram, acetyfentanyl, and despropionyl fentanyl in his system, according to the Los Angeles County medical examiner's office. His family posted on Facebook that Petty was taking multiple medications because he suffered from "many serious ailments.? Petty's family hopes that the singer's death sparks further discussion on the opioid crisis.
