VIDEO : What MoviePass' Growth Means For The Industry

Celebrity in this news:

The movie theater subscription service known as MoviePass is enjoying tremendous success, announcing that it now has 1.5 million paid subscribers. It only took the service 20 days to increase its numbers from 1 million paid subscribers to 1.5 million, capturing the attention of industry insiders. Since changing to a $9.95 per month pricing model, which allows subscribers to see a movie per day, the company's growth has been staggering. Backed by Helios and Matheson Analytics, Inc., the service had around 20,000 paid subscribers before the price change went into effect on August 15th, and had climbed to 150,000 a mere eight days later. And by the end of December, MoviePass announced that it hit a million paid-subscribers, a milestone accomplished faster than Netflix or Hulu. But it didn't end there, as on Tuesday the company announced it had hit 1.5 million paid subscribers. And according to Jeff Bock, senior analyst for Exhibitor Relations, ?All other online ticket sales entities must be shaking in their boots. Based on these staggering numbers, MoviePass is the real deal game changer. This is the one theatrical exhibition entity that is actively growing attendance, something the industry desperately needs.?
