'Star Trek' icon William Shatner has been appointed to the Order of Canada. Canadian Governor General Julie Payette honored the actor with the title, explaining that it was "for his iconic contributions to popular culture spanning theater, television and film, and for his philanthropic support of causes related to health care, the environment and the well-being of children." Shatner portrayed Captain James T. Kirk in Star Trek. The actor was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
