Many people love dogs but very few foster them. Why is that? One dog mom who fosters border collie and herding mixes in the Atlanta area speaks out about what makes fostering so great. She says she is compelled to do it- if no one fosters the dogs then there is no one to take care of them and they will be euthanized. Many people tell her they would struggle to give the dog up when it comes time for adoption but she says the goal of fostering is to get the dog well enough to be adopted into a forever home so it doesnt feel like giving them up. The hardest part that no one thinks about is dealing with the dogs unknown past which typically includes abuse and neglect. It is a journey for foster parent and dog and it is worth doing if you have the space.
