Donald Trump employs authoritarian strategies to undermine the media and anybody else he dislikes. Authoritarian leaders try to attack the press by undermining their ability to make money. So, Trump is threatening the licenses of various organisations or criticising them publicly on Twitter. He's trying to get his supporters to boycott certain organisations and go after the revenue streams. Trump and is Department of Justice are also holding up the Time Warner and AT&T merger, seemingly out of his dislike for CNN.
