On Thursday, CNN reported that Sarah Idan, Miss Iraq, inadvertently sparked an international incident, when she posted a selfie on Instagram with her new friend at the Miss Universe pageant. The photo Idan took with Adar Gandelsman, Miss Israel set off a backlash from officials and online commenters that included death threats. Idan said, "When I posted the photo, I didn't really expect that it would create this much of a controversy." The international selfie caused swift blowback due to the fragile relations between Iraq and Israel.
