Critics liked the movie. It holds an 80% on Rotten Tomatoes. The site says the film is a solidly entertaining update on its source material.
Not everyone liked the movie.
Geek.com's MovieBob says the film is enjoyable on it's own but doesn't take enough chances to be a Jumanji film.
MovieBob wonders how this is a Jumanji film "despite having a completely different tone, storyline, setup, and cast of characters than the original."
