Jon Bernthal revealed to Variety that he was hesitant about joining the universe of superheroes and found the idea of becoming Frank Castle "scary." Bernthal said: ?A lot of the people that I really admire, actors that I really look up to have avoided that whole thing.? Yet he said that The Punisher was a bit different in that he did not wear a mask or have any powers and although he was scared of the role, he was "intrigued" by it as well.
