Lena Dunham was hit with backlash over the weekend when she defended 'Girls' writer Murray Miller after he was accused of rape. According to The Hollywood Reporter and the LAPD, actress Aurora Perrineau filed a police report claiming that Miller sexually assaulted her. Miller denied the accusations, and both Dunham and 'Girls' showrunner Jenni Konner defended him in a statement released to The Hollywood Reporter. The pair wrote, "While our first instinct is to listen to every woman?s story, our insider knowledge of Murray?s situation makes us confident that sadly this accusation is one of the 3 percent of assault cases that are misreported every year." After backlash online, Dunham apologized in a tweet, writing, ""Every woman who comes forward deserves to be heard, fully and completely, and our relationship to the accused should not be a part of the calculation anyone makes when examining her case."
