VIDEO : One of Studio Ghibli?s Most Memorable Characters Was Based on Miyazaki?s Mother

Castle in the Sky is an animated film from 1986 directed by Hayao Miyazaki and the feature debut of Studio Ghibli. Behind the scenes facts were released recently concerning some of the characters in the movie, specifically the character Dola. Dola is a leader of the sky pirates, she has a complicated and changing story arc but reveals herself in the end to be loyal and protective. We learned that her character is based on Miyazaki?s mother who was in poor health for a lot of his life and still managed to give strength to those around her.
