Despite great word-of-mouth and excellent reviews, a long-awaited sci-fi sequel fared worse at the box office than anticipated. In first this weekend at the box office was Blade Runner 2049, which brought in 31.5 million dollars in its first three days. This figure is well below original expectations heading into Friday. Some estimates thought it could legitimately challenge the October opening weekend record.
