In a recent interview, Guardian's of the Galaxy 2 director James Gunn opened up about one of the most beloved characters from the movie. In the sequel, Yondu sacrifices himself to say Star Lord, and the crew shares a sweet funeral and send off for their friend and father figure. Gunn recently explained that Yondu is dead for good, and that the only way he would appear in the 3rd or 4th "Guardians" movie is by a flashback or in a prequel. Gunn shared that he will never personally bring him back, since that would take a way from his sacrifice in the second movie.
