On Friday, Justin Bieber, who Channel 24 says is more "known more for headline-grabbing scandals than activism," posted the "Black Lives Matter" logo on his Instagram page. In his caption he wrote, "I am a white Canadian and I will never know what it feels like to be an African American but what I do know is I am willing to stand up and use my voice to shine light on racism." The 23-year old added, that racism is "more prevalent now than I have ever seen in my lifetime." The Black Lives Matter movement grew following the string of police killings of African-Americans. Channel 24 reports that Bieber usually stays away from politics, but cancelled a tour this summer and announced that he "needed time to himself."
