The eagerly anticipated new series "Star Trek: Discovery," is only days away. The first episode premieres Sunday night on the CBS All Access subscription streaming channel. Executive producer and co-showrunner Gretchen J. Berg says, "There will be hope, there will be optimism, there will be people trying to be the best version of themselves, which is something I think we really need to be focused on in this day and age." She explained that real current events have inspired some of the material for the upcoming season. The new series begins a few years before the 23rd century time frame of the original "Star Trek" series. Actress Sonequa Martin-Green is the first black woman in command of a "Star Trek" starship, and Anthony Rapp, an openly gay actor, portrays the first openly gay character on the show. Rapp said, "Visibility matters."
