Following the departure of Colin Trevorrow, 51-year-old filmmaker, J.J. Abrams will return to the Star Wars franchise to direct the upcoming episode nine. Trevorrow reportedly left the film due to "differing visions for the project". Kathleen Kennedy, the head of Lucasfilm, said in a statement on Starwars.com, With 'The Force Awakens', J.J. delivered everything we could have possibly hoped for and I am so excited that he is coming back to close out this trilogy." 'Star Wars: Episode IX' is scheduled to be released on May 24, 2019. In the meantime, Rian Johnson's 'The Last Jedi', the second movie in the trilogy, is set to hit screens in December.
