"Guardians of the Galaxy" writer and director James Gunn has revealed his process for selecting the film series' music. On the "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" Blu-ray commentary track, Gunn explains, ?The truth is I have a list of about 500 songs that I think of as ?Meredith Quill songs.? [...] And in that list I keep that on files on my computer, and as I?m writing the screenplay ? actually as I?m writing the treatment before the screenplay ? I?ll go through it and find songs that fit a moment or a place that needs a song, and I?ll search out a song that will fit the moment." The Awesome Mixes were curated by Meredith for her son, played by Chris Pratt. Gunn previously said that he gave Pratt a mixed CD ?that he could listen to endlessly, so he?d know it backwards and forwards, just as Quill knew the tape his mom gave him.?
