David Letterman shared his grief following the death of Emmy-winning actor Jay Thomas, who was best known for his roles on "Cheers" and "Murphy Brown." Thomas passed away Thursday after a battle with cancer. During every holiday season, Thomas was a guest on ?The Late Show With David Letterman? where he and the host would take turns tossing a football at a meatball atop a Christmas tree. In a statement, Letterman wrote, "I loved Jay... my heart goes out to his family."
